Chicken Shawarma Buddha Bowl

This Buddha bowl is a healthy version of chicken shawarma served in a bowl in a salad form.

You can make your own shawarma bowls at home and enjoy the mouth watering flavors. This is a filling and nutritious salad and so this can be served as a meal for dinner or lunch. Well, this is not at all the traditional Buddha bowl, as Buddha bowl is usually a vegetarian bowl of goodness. But as you all can tell by now, we are strong meat lovers. 😀 So I added chicken. But you can omit the chicken and make it fully vegan.

The key when assembling a Buddha bowl is balance. One bowl should contain protein, starch, veggies, healthy fats and spice. So when building it, first choose a grainy base like rice, burgul, quinoa, polenta. Secondly, add the veggies like cucumbers, onions, capsicum, tomatoes, potatoes…actually any veggies you like. Thirdly add legumes, like edamame, chickpeas, lentils etc (If you are going non-veg, add chicken for protein), Fourthly, you can add nuts, seeds etc for that crunch. Then make a flavorful sauce like the tahini-yoghurt sauce which I’ve made here, or peanut sauce, pesto, avocado sauce etc. Finally drizzle hot sauce for that punch of flavors.

So here since I’ve used a shawarma sauce, and also added a Mediterranean flavored chicken I named it Chicken Shawarma Buddha Bowl. See how I made it in this video. Please give the video a thumbs up and subscribe if you haven’t yet. 🙂
